Automated internal transport at Kyocera

CESTEK has delivered a complete solution for automated internal transport at Kyocera, where mobile robots and intelligent conveyors ensure efficient and ergonomic goods transport between workstations and the warehouse—without manual lifting and unnecessary production stoppages.

Mobile robot as a transport solution

Kyocera wanted to optimise internal transport in production so that employees would not have to move boxes and materials between workstations and the warehouse themselves. The solution was to:

  • Ensure stable and repeatable transport
  • Integrate seamlessly into the existing production environment
  • Minimise manual handling
  • Operate safely among employees

The goal was both to increase efficiency and improve the working environment.

CESTEK delivered a turnkey solution based on mobile robot technology, selecting the Omron LD‑90, which is well suited for flexible internal transport in production.

The robot was equipped with CESTEK-developed conveyor modules, enabling it to automatically pick up and drop off boxes with high precision—completely without human error.

The solution consists, among other things, of:

  • 1 pc. Omron LD‑90 mobile robot
  • 1 pc. CESTEK Spacer
  • 1 pc. CESTEK Single Conveyor
  • 6 pcs. CESTEK double floor conveyors
  • 2 pcs. Omron side lasers for safe navigation

The robot can handle up to 70 kg per transport, travels at speeds of up to 1.35 m/s, and exchanges boxes with conveyors in just a few seconds.

Results and benefits:

The automated internal transport solution has provided Kyocera with:

  • Significant reduction in manual transport work
  • Improved flow between workstations
  • Up to 30 box exchanges per hour (incl. driving time)
  • Improved ergonomics and occupational safety
  • A solution that can easily be scaled with additional robots

Reference

“We chose CESTEK because they could deliver a turnkey solution. They have the right know-how regarding the implementation of mobile robots, both in terms of control engineering and the subsequent optimisation.
The process has been driven by strong momentum, which has made it a success—also among our employees, who have responded very positively to the changes in production.”
